Logan White, who recently committed to play at Rutgers, scored twice and Christine Sparks added the final tally off a nice pass from Augusta Daley. The Wolverines will be looking for retribution after falling to Pearce last season in the Regional Semifinal round. The location for the match is yet to be determined.
3.23.10 Girls Beat Sulphur Springs 4-0, Move on to Round 3
The Lady Wolverines cruised to a 4-0 win over Sulphur Springs last night in a second round playoff match in Rockwall. The girls dominated play the entire game, giving up only a few long range shots from Sulphur Springs, while peppering the opposing goal keeper all night. Maddie Brown and Brittanie Barbero both netted their first goals of the season, and Ashley Kingston added two to cap the scoring. Maddie Lundberg notched two assists, and Haley Lyons and Paige Reid added assists as well. Wakeland will play the winner of the Frisco - Paris North Lamar game tonight.
3.21.10 Girls Beat Prosper in Opening Round of Playoffs
Just like last year, the Prosper Lady Eagles put up a good fight in the first round of the playoffs against the Lady Wolverines. But the outcome was the same as Wakeland was able to weather the storm and win the match 2-1. The first half saw end to end action as both Wakeland and Prosper generated good scoring chances. But Wakeland opened the scoring mid-way through, when Maddie Lundberg launched a beautiful shot from the top of the 18 that bent in to the top corner over the outstretched hands of the keeper. Then with time winding down in the half, Katie Carmichael sent a sweet pass out to Logan White who deked a defender and easily beat the keeper for the eventual game winner. In the second half, the Wakeland defense was tested as Prosper tried to push the ball forward. The Eagles managed to get in behind the defense once and made the most of it, scoring to pull within 1. But the Lady Wolverines clamped down after that, and goalie Michaela Moen played well throughout to help Wakeland advance. The girls travel to Rockwall's Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium to face Sulphur Springs at 6pm Monday in second round playoff action. The Wakeland boys will follow at 8pm against Greenville.

3.1.10 Girls Tie Centennial and Win Shootout, Beat Frisco
First of all congrats to the lady hoopsters on their trip to State! Go Wolverines! The lady footballers remained unbeaten last week surviving a scare against Centennial on Tuesday, and winning in dramatic fashion against Frisco on Friday. Against the Titans, Ashley Kingston tied the game at 1-1 in the second half on a service from Maddie Lundberg. Then goalkeeper Michaela Moen made 3 huge stops in the shootout and Wakeland was able to finish 3 of their chances to ultimately win the shootout. On Friday at Pizza Hut Park, the Wolverines got all they could handle from a very motivated Frisco High squad who was looking to stay in the district race with a win. But the Lady Wolverines matched the intensity, put up a defensive wall with Lauren Hill, Haley Lyons, Ashley Vega and Whitney Stone consistently shutting down the Frisco attacks. Michaela Moen also made several huge stops in net, and it came down to a scoreless tie with 10 minutes left. That's when Wakeland turned up the offensive pressure. With less than 5 minutes to go, freshman Maddie Lundberg won a ball at mid field, juked several defenders and ripped a shot from about 20 yards that easily found the back of the net. The goal gave Wakeland the 1-0 win, and the inside track to a possible district title.
2.22.10 Girls Beat Liberty and RL Turner, Now 5-0 in District
The Lady Wolverines completed the first half of district play undefeated after beating Liberty 3-0 last Tuesday, and RL Turner 3-0 Friday. Wakeland dominated possesion throughout the game, and finally solved the Red Hawks in the second with goals from Paige Reid, Haley Lyons and Katey Carmichael. Ashley Kingston and Maddie Lundberg picked up assists. Against RL Turner, the Wolverines surprisingly struggled to score once again in the first half. But Logan White finally buried a beautiful one timer on a nice ball from Maddie Lundberg to open the scoring and that proved to be all the Wolverines would need. White and Lyons both netted their second goals of the week in the second half, and Katey Carmichael added an assist. Strong efforts from the midfield, defense and keeper Michaela Moen in both games brought the Wolverines shutout streak to 4 games.
