Although, this will be Coach Carter’s first year as head wrestling coach at Wakeland High School, it will be his 8th year as a head coach. Carter was a State Champion for McQueen High School in 1993. Finishing the season with a perfect 49-0 record as a senior. After leaving McQueen High School, Carter went on to become a 2X All-American at Southern Oregon University. In 1997, Coach Carter served as the head assistant at Sierra Junior College and in 1998 became the head assistant at Wooster High School. Carter coached under Hall of Fame coach Tom Bailey and was part of Bailey’s 1998 state championship run. In that year Wooster High School finished the season ranked 17th in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News Magazine. In 2000 Coach Carter became the head coach of the University of Nevada Reno Club Team. While at the University of Nevada Reno, Carter’s teams placed 2nd in the Nation twice and won the 2003 NCWA Club National Championships. During Carter’s three years at UNR, he was voted WAC coach of the year 3 times and also the National Club Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2003. Carter then spent 5 years coaching the Damonte Ranch Mustangs. He was named the Nevada Gatorade Coach of the year in 2004 and was named the National High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2008.
